I am thrilled that the Royal Oak has won a Michelin star. It is just reward for all the hard work that everyone has put in. The cooking remains some of the best I’ve ever eaten and the front of house staff run the floor with a style worthy of the food whilst maintaining the informality of a country pub. To become one of only 140 restaurants in the UK that are deemed good enough to be awarded a star is an extraordinary achievement. Personally, it’s better than winning a BAFTA or Barnsley winning the Champions League.
